Sailing is a highly physical sport on an unstable platform, which has an irregular motion due to the conditions – wind and sea.
Therefore it is imperative that the athlete is strong in the core and throughout the body and that the limbs and attaching joints are strong independently of the trunk in order to avoid injury.
Sailing specific work –
- Balance and agility come from a stable skeletal platform
- A stable platform comes from the entire body working independently in its own right whilst working together.
- Full range of motion around each joint is vital in order to not overstrain other areas
